If Good Music is on YouTube and No One is Around To Tweet it Does it Still rock?

I remember watching Futurama and on the directors commentary when talking about the production of a song for the show, one of the writers asked why there isn’t better music now that the technology to make and record music is so cheap.

To be honest I kept asking myself the same question. Heaps of cheap technology for making it but, not hearing better music.

But then again you have to remember there are two parts to hearing good music. Firstly it’s creation, secondly its being listened too. The latter requires different technologies than the former.

So while procrastinating one night on youtube I found this. There it was, good music, and a place to listen. It makes perfect sense now. You need better technology in the creation of music and its distribution.

The new wave of good music, probably won’t come through the radio or the tv. It’s coming through Youtube, facebook, and twitter. Finally the technology that allows me to hear it has caught up with the technologies that allow it to be produced. My ears are eternally grateful.

The future of music indeed is online. I am a young guy and I never buy music on a CD anymore. I buy on itunes, and I also listen to heaps of music on youtube!

I love that song! how did you find it! There needs to be more ways for people to track down cool bands online.

I am sick of all the mainstream music, why are there no ways to easily search, browse and be introduced to music from small bands and artists.

Thanks daniel for the link, that song is really really cool!

@Steve: Although I quite like itunes and it’s a great way to get music, there is still something to be said for browsing around JB.

@Sarah: I stumbled across it on listening to another video. I’m not sure about a search function out there, but facebook and youtube are generally a decent place where good music finds you. If someone posts a link to a music video just follow it see where it leads you.

Rundfunk is a radio station that’s only active for a couple of weeks a year – part of a summer festival, and it’s broadcast around the world.

Nothin but good music – made by tec, distributed by tec.

I LOOOOOVE RUNDFUNK! its awesome. There needs to be more of these cool radio stations around!

As a fan of mashups I am always checking out http://www.mashuptown.com/ These are great mashups and remixes created by underground djs and music lovers the world over. It is all totally free and people are encouraged to remix each others remixes and such.

Just another example of young people using technology to create things for each other in an open source way.
